Right Turn Clyde!

Here lately, every time I get in my car, I come across one or more drivers who just don't get the concept of a right turn on red.  Come on people, this is Texas and you can turn right on red after coming to a complete stop AND checking to make sure it is clear UNLESS there is a sign that indicates otherwise.

The people who wait to turn right until the light turns green even though it was totally clear only mildly irritate me because I just figure they are a bit dim witted.  (Well maybe mildly was not quite the right adjective but we won't go there now.)

On the other hand, the idiots that come up to a red light, stop and then turn without really checking to see if it was clear really bring out the redhead in me.  Let's face it if they are throwing caution to the wind with this driving rule, what other rules are they also disregarding?  People like them don't need to be driving because they are just an accident waiting to happen.

For those of you interested, see the Texas Driver's Handbook (page 28 - Steady Red Light) for the actual wording of the rule.
